Haruko Amaya (天谷 春恋, Amaya Haruko) is one of the main female protagonists of the Maken-Ki! series. She is the vice-president of the Student Council Security Division, a sophomore student at Tenbi Academy and the childhood friend of Takeru Ooyama who has been in love with him ever since they were children. She shares a dorm with him, along with Kodama Himegami and Inaho Kushiya (who claims to be Takeru's fiancé), and that creates a fierce rivalry between them for Takeru's affections.
Appearance[]
Haruko has long purple hair that reaches past her waist when completely loose. She usually keeps her hair tied back in a single ponytail with a red ribbon, while the rest of her hair falls in several strands across her face. She has light blue eyes. One of Haruko's most distinctive features is her highly developed and curvaceous body, especially her breasts. She currently has an H-cup bust, making it one of the largest known busts in Tenbi Academy. She is also considerably tall, as she usually appears quite a bit taller than her classmates.
Haruko most often wears the typical Tenbi Academy school uniform with the addition of a pair of dark pantyhose underneath her skirt, as a precaution to prevent anyone from seeing her panties.

Haruko is a very kind and caring person who is quite popular at Tenbi Academy as many of the students at Tenbi admires her deeply due to her kindness. (This is a point that has been stated by many characters throughout the series). However, she is quite modest in her own abilities, usually underestimating herself and praising others.
As a pride of the model of the academy, Haruko is possessed with very high morals and ethics and believes firmly in upholding to the rules and justice of Tenbi. Such as how she believes that if a duel doesn't have a legitimate reason she won't allow it. Despite of her affiliation with the Tenbi academy though she appears to be quite pacifistic usually preferring to avoid any combat whatsoever if possible.
Despite her mature mind and even strong willed spirit, Haruko is a tsundere girl which is a very sensitive topic for her especially whenever relationships are mentioned, including any topics relating to Takeru Ooyama, though she never admits it. It is because of her hidden feelings for Takeru remaining unnoticed even to Takeru himself, Haruko is often constantly competing with her many love rivals for Takeru, such as Inaho Kushiya, Kodama Himegami, Shiria Ootsuka, and many others throughout the series for his affection. She also is quite violent when it comes to matters involving him, usually taking drastic measures - much like a lot of the girls throughout the series - whenever he would say or do something immodest.

Etymology[]
- The name Haruko means "spring" (春) (haru) and "love" (恋) (ko).
- Haruko's surname Amaya means "rain" (雨) (ama) and "valley" (谷) (ya).
- This pronunciation is used in Eastern Japan, while the "Valley" part is pronounced "Tani" in Western Japan.

- Along with Chacha Akaza, Haruko has a H-cup bust. However, the bust sizes are different as Haruko’s breast is two centimeters less (97cm) than Chacha’s breast size (99cm).
- Haruko 's measurements (Bust, waist and hip) are 97-59-88, being one of the girls with the largest bust among her classmates, only surpassed by Chacha , Minori and Aki .
- Many consider Haruko to be the most powerful student at Tenbi Academy.
- In the second episode of the second season, which she stars in, Haruko , having amnesia, confessed that she has always been in love with Takeru , but that she lacked the courage to tell him.
- During the same episode, it is revealed that she is 17 years old.
- In the first OVA of the anime, Haruko's lesbian side was shown. It has been revealed that Haruko has a habit of stalking and fondling other girls in their dreams. Sleepwalking, she began fondling the breasts of Teacher Aki, Yuuka, Kimi, and would end up sleeping next to Furan. However, Furan said that it went beyond that with her, saying it with a smile and embarrassment.
